Duplicate PAN Card Process

The Income Tax Department (ITD) of India issues a unique alphanumeric code/ number to the citizens consisting of ten digits known as a PAN or Permanent Account Number. This document is exclusive proof of identity, and in some cases it is treated as mandatory document to verify date of birth. One needs to follow the below mentioned steps to procure a duplicate PAN card:

  • Applicants need to apply for a PAN change request and fill all required details by visiting the official web portal of NSDL.
  • Applicants who need just to procure duplicate PAN (in case they lost or damaged previous one) without any rectification in details should not select any box in left margin.
  • If there is no alteration in PAN card details, the address will be updated in the database of ITD as per provided in the form.
  • After this applicant is required to submit a proof identity (preferably Aadhar or Passport) and a proof of residence (preferably Voter card, Aadhar card or utility bill) along with PAN card issuance proof (maybe a photocopy of PAN card damaged or lost) and submit the form.
  • A nominal fee of alteration/ issue is charged by the authority which can either be paid by net banking or credit/ debit card. After paying the fee applicant gets acknowledgement with which the status can be tracked.

PAN card application Do's and Don'ts:

  • Fill details as per identity and address proofs
  • Write complete address and furnish correct contact details in the form
  • Fill the application form in capital letters
  • Get the thumb impression attested before submission
  • Don't make unnecessary alterations/ cutting/ overwriting in the form
