In India, passport expires after ten years of issuance after which it needs to be renewed.
first of all the holder needs to register on the Passport Seva website. Click "new user" if you're new to website or "login" if already registered. You can register fresh by providing basic details like email ID, name, address, date of birth, etc. A login ID and passport will be created. Then you need to select the nearby passport office.
You can fill the form either online or download a PDF copy of the form and fill it offline. For online, you need to add up your personal details in the form and provide two local references, their names, phone number and address. These people will be contacted if police verification is required. Just click submit and it's done.
For offline filling up the form, you need to upload the document to the same page where you have downloaded it from, after completing the form details. After uploading, the details will be added to the online form. Verify the details and submit.
For the purpose of renewal of passport, you need not to pay any fees.
Just click on "schedule appointment" and choose a slot which is convenient to you. An option of choosing the passport office may also be given to you, which intend to visit. After your confirmation of slot and centre, your appointment may be scheduled.
A group number will be allotted to you, which should be mentioned in your form. After your number is called, ensure you go to the next room with your group and start the application process. Just after the completion of the process, validity will be extended and the same booklet will be returned to you.
