Headquartered in Kannur, North Malabar Gramin Bank was established in 1976 to provide banking facilities in the North Malabar region. It was established as a Scheduled Commercial Bank and had 222 branches in seven districts of Kerala. The amalgamation of South Malabar Gramin Bank (sponsored by Canara Bank) and North Malabar Gramin Bank (sponsored by Syndicate Bank) into one entity, the Kerala Gramin Bank, happened recently in 2013.
